Joe Kelly was an active member of the Prince George running community and a mentor to many local runners.
Sadly, Joe was taken from his family and friends when he was struck and killed by a falling tree branch while participating in a race in Australia in 2013.
In consultation with Joe’s wife, Laura, and his daughters, the Prince George Road Runners Club changed its year-end event into the annual Joe Kelly Memorial Run in his honour.
Every October, runners come out to the Otway Nordic Centre to commemorate an individual who made a difference in our local community.
The event consists of 30-minute, one-hour, and two-hour group runs on both trail and road with staggered starts to all participants wind up back at the lodge for lunch and the opportunity to celebrate Joe’s life.
Donations in memory of Joe are accepted at the run for the ‘Right to Play’ – an organization dedicated to protecting, educating and empowering children to rise above adversity, using the power of play.
